TheTimes' Jon Caramanica had his doubts about Converse shoes even before he visited their new Soho store:"About 10 years ago, Converse collaborated with John Varvatos on a modified, somehow-more-casual take on the Chuck by making it a slip-on with no laces, only empty eyelets to emphasize just how carefree and slick you are. Already a simpleton, it became a dullard. It is my least favorite shoe, lower even than Crocs."Unsurprisingly, the new footwear failed to sway him:"They looked moist. I slipped them on and immediately felt terrible. The rubber soles were unforgiving, the side-to-side slide untenable— and I hadn’t even looked in the mirror yet ... I took a quick glance and retreated. At least the shoes were easy to get off."{NYT}
